To prevent deformation of gray cast iron components, the workpieces should be removed from the gray cast iron, gray cast iron plates, and gray cast iron parts, as prolonged pressure on the cast iron plates can cause the workpieces to deform over time.
What is gray iron casting and forging?
1. Gray iron casting: The cast-iron platform is not intended for cleaning the work surface. Instead, apply rust-preventive oil, cover it with rust-proof paper, and then secure the gray iron casting with the platform’s outer packaging to prevent the gray iron casting process from failing—and to avoid damaging the finished product.
2. Gray iron castings are carried out according to the national standard schedule. Depending on the detailed condition, the verification cycle may range from 6 to 12 months.

What are the considerations for structural design in gray iron castings?

When designing gray cast iron structures, the following considerations are typically essential:
1. Thanks to gray cast iron's excellent fluidity, volumetric shrinkage, and linear contraction, foundries can design thin-walled (but not too small to prevent white spots) and complex shapes.
2. Since gray cast iron has tensile strength that is 3 to 4 times higher, to fully leverage the strength characteristics of gray cast iron parts, casting workshops should frequently employ asymmetric surfaces, ensuring that compressive stress in the cross-section of the casting remains low, while load-induced stress on the casting itself is maximized.
3. When designing the structure of gray cast iron, the wall thickness should not be too thin, and edges and corners should be appropriately thickened to prevent the formation of brittle white cast iron structures.
4. The mechanical properties of gray cast iron are highly sensitive to wall thickness. Therefore, foundries should not rely on increasing wall thickness as a method to enhance the load-bearing capacity of castings. The critical thickness for various types of gray cast iron can be selected from Table 1.1-6. Additionally, casting workshops can also achieve the goal of eliminating existing thick sections and improving load-bearing performance by employing rational cross-sectional shapes.
